I also believe Google shouldn't try to link with Outlook / Exchange, as it detracts their focus and gobbles up precious resources. Following someone else always keeps you in the back.
Besides, Plaxo already offers the functionality to sync between Google and Outlook, albeit via Plaxo. (Until recently this was for free, now it has become payable, so less attractive). Why not make some kind of deal with Plaxo?
