I have had A LOT of cell phones over the years. I think about 20+ and counting ALWAYS the latest and best phones. Hands down this phone has EVERYTHING! It's amazing! I have a couple of friends with the iPhone 3G and I wasn't really all that impressed. This phone has it all...I can't wait the for new apps! Give it a shot...you will loooove it!

Great article folks. You obviously saw value in producing a true deep research item rather than repeating the usual "what is the Pre" and here are the "common points".

Some feedback for your article...

The big obvious omission is a discussion on Synergy -- in calendar, mail and contacts. You don't mention having all your Google, Facebook, Outlook and Palm contacts in one place linked together... etc.

To me the launcher was pretty intuitive, and I'm not sure if this reviewer was aware, but I can swipe anywhere on the launcher screen to get to the next page, instead of just at the "slider icon."

Re the laucher
It's fair to say that both horizontal and vertical control makes for a slightly less "initial" intuitive experience, but it's easily learned, and much appreciated. You can have a page for your go-to apps (with no vertical scrolling), a long list of everything else, and then the last page for system/utilities/config. Most would be happy with this arrangement

A common misconception is that the iPhone doesn't multitask. It does. Many of the core apps (phone, email, browser, iPod, app store, SMS/MMS) work simultaneously in the background just fine, even while running 3rd party apps. They also integrate with each other and 3rd party apps. (e.g., the White Pages app can add an entry to Contacts, send a location to Google Maps, and of course call out to a phone number.)

What the iPhone can't do is run more than one 3rd party app at the same time. Many apps compensate by saving their state before closing so you can resume where you left off. And the new Notification services allow 3rd party apps to "wake up" when they receive a message.

What's not possible? Well, I'd like to be able to listen to the Pandora radio app while doing other things. I'd also like to have an app that would periodically share my location with friends. Limiting, to be sure, but not as bad as some would believe.

Nice article but is it really fair to compare 3rd gen iPhone to 1st gen Pre? Judging from how the Pre fares with it's first gen release I am confident they will continue to gain relevant market share and be a solid PDA entry for years to come. I am anxiously awaiting a Verizon based WebOS device. Nothing against iPhone but WebOS presents a more promising future especially knowing who is behind it.

Lol, I do not know if the authors read the comments but this review seemed lacking in proper research. For starters using exchange you can accept meetings using your pre(I do it all the time). You seem to downplay pre features while over praising the iphone in categories the pre does just as well (not all but most). When it comes down to it, both phones can be used at the enterprise level. The pre just gets the job done more effciently with its multi-task. The iphone on the other hand has more to offer from a applicaton pointof view, which makes it the top contender for multimedia. You said it but did not have it totaly right; it is not a matter of which phone kills the other. Its just a matter of what you want your phone to do for you. All in all kudos for trying!!!
