Cloud Computing May Curb Video Game Piracy

Cloud computer is the future not only of the internet but of television and video games. Onlive will be a tremendous breakthrough if it works. However they have to over come a lot of potential issues before it will run smoothly. Once there are millions of people accessing their servers there will be some lag issues I would guess.

Personally I see this as a major step backwards for the game modding community. There have been some very mediocre games made brilliant by the talents of modders. If no-one can change what they play then this fairly large sector of the gaming community becomes disenfranchied.
Yes console games are growing, but to be honest not many of them are of great interest to a great many gamers. The ability to customise their experience is something currently not very much on offer on consoles (with one or two notbable exceptions). This is something that needs to be remembered when looking at the future of gaming. Unless the games can be modified, large sections of the community will leave them unplayed.

There are just too many positives with the OnLive game service. Curbing privacy is just one of them. So many avenues that weren't available with console games are now opening up with OnLive. -Bomgui, OnLive Forums
