I bought my fiancee one (EeePC 900 from Asus) and she absolutely loves it. Even the linux that comes with it was VERY easy to use - maybe even more than Windows. It comes with 1GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 16 SSD, and a linux distro. She uses it for notetaking, writing reports, browsing the internet, etc. Everything a casual user would use it for minus the occasional game or process heavy apps like photoshop. I would HIGHLY recommend EeePC for a sub 300 dollar option to get on the net and use OpenOffice.

I like the idea of a notebook over a pc for working purposes. Its great for students and allows for easy mobil usage, bringing it back and forth between classes. However you can buy a laptop capable of doing just as much and more for the same prices. With the economy as bad as its been lately im surprised that they are still selling as much as they are now. You can buy a used laptop for as much as you will spend on a notebook. I just think for the prices its selling for, you could pay a little more and buy a laptop.
