According to the latest smartphone sales numbes from Gartner and DisplaySearch's netbook sales numbers, 4.7 million iPhones were shipped in Q3 2008 while a whopping 5.6 million netbooks were sold in the same period.
6.9 million iPhones were shipped in Q08!
I don't think you're comparing apple to apple. if you want to compare netbook and iphone, you should also include ipod touch as that would be closer, form wise, to a netbook. I don't have the number but you'll find that the combination of iphone/ipod touch will far surpass all netbook sales combined.
And Sports-Utility Vehicles outsold 2-door Porsche sports coupes this year.
Remotely intelligible headlines and comparative articles, we knew ye well...
Wait wait, you're comparing the entire netbook market to the sales of a single model of cell phone that accounts for a tiny percentage of all cell phones sold. People actually read this crap?
Perhaps the headline for this article should read:
"iPhone nearly outsells entire Netbook market on it's own"
or
"Entire Netbook market only slightly larger than sales of a single unrelated product"
>sigh<
LOL
If you want to compare Apples with Apples...
How can you compare the "Whopping" sales from the netbook market which includes MANY models from MANY suppliers with the iPhone a single product from one supplier - Apple.
This is an absurd comparison!
even kettles and microwaves were more popular than iphones. over 18 million microwave ovens and 13 million kettles sold in the same period.
Shouldn't you compare netbooks to smartphones? It's not like you're comparing iPhones to Asus Eeepcs, are you?
Not to mention the fact that there are many different brands of Netbooks - so you would logically compare them to all of the different brands of Smartphones, right?
Wrong - That would require logic... Sadly missing from this article.
Comparing a computer with a smartphone?
Comparing a global sale of a product which is made by several makers with a product that stands on its own from only one maker??
If you want to do that, than your article should say:"Wow, the iPhone nearly kicks the global sales of ALL netbooks".
Strange article this is :-)
