"The story: I received a whitepaper on virtualization. I won't disclose the source, as it was clear during my quest for information that this whitepaper was little more than a compendium, a pastiche of information lifted from different sources, put together by someone without any familiarity with the subject."
Why does this happen so much? It seems everyone is a generalist this day or a pretend specialist. I've seen so many people writing about stuff they have no clue about. I'm glad someone else in cyberspace is seeing this same thing and starting to call this practice out a little. It would be nice to see people stop and think about the actual inner workings or details behind what they're writing on. In this day of 1,000 different web based news outlets on virtualization you end up with everyone trying to beat everyone else out with headlines or reports. Even now there are hundreds of analyst firms (most of the time 2 people in a garage) covering virtualization and trying to influence buying decisions. All of this has greatly deteriorated the quality of the content. There are a few good outfits out there (news and analysts). Hopefully more people get drawn to them than to these other pretenders. Time will tell.
Its really tending to think on how reliable is the content on internet? And Virtualization is a concept hereafter whose reader count is increasing day by day, every one is curious about it, and such misleading content can misguide the reader... Good Infromative article!

Times Of Virtualization
Well said. I am very young to IT, however even with my limited skills and exposure, I have often times found myself doing the same thing. I read a couple of articles earlier today on eChanneLine, and got a similar impression. Good job. I am truly concerned that quite a high number of people actually take studies and reports as is without thinking even it it makes practical sense. One of those I saw which made me a little angry, was a report of how successful Vista has been despite the many complaints. Having sold over 1 million licenses.Well I am pretty sure that of those million (my company alone may hae sold over 250,000 if not more) nearly all of them were either downgraded immediately or they ensured that they had the downgrade rights to XP. So even though the sales are there, it has nothing to do with whether they were actually deployed and thus gives a false impression as to the success of Vista. As was noted by the article though, in most cases, the buyer had really no choice in what they could purchase on the PC at the time of purchase.
