It won't be long before the terrorists target the defense areas... There must be some kind of mechanism in place that deters such "sensitive areas" to be mapped on Google Earth.
Sensitive areas already are blurred on Google Earth.
(And a number of other areas do not show up in great detail either).
Besides, any good invention has been abused by people with bad intentions. "Don't throw away the baby together with the bath water!"
So what is the point of the article? Is the autor trying to say that the atacks are google's fault? Should we blurr whole cities off the maps? or instead should officials start using the same tools to deter terror?
I believe all groups of HATE always use some communication before attacking people of rich, etc. Google earth is a good example to remake this system to avoid this kind of attacks in US or elsewhere ... Let the groups win non-stops of plotting for the next time it never stops ....
What's all the fuss? Did Google invent maps or something? What did Google provide that Rand McNally or AAA didn't provide. The only difference is speed and the internet has spead up getting info on everything and anything so lets bring down the NET since it can be abused by terriorists! OMG, Chicken Little was right!
Crime is always two steps ahead of Law Enforcement…that’s a fact. Securing the critical infrastructures in the country is the prime responsibility of the Government. The Indian Government has done a mediocre job defending itself. There will be more bloody surprise attacks. Next time, 9/11 tragedy will be resurrected somewhere else. God has never helped the dead. He only helps the lucky survivors.
Google Earth wasn't responsible for these horrible attacks. This article was tagged as such just to get people to read the thing. This type of "journalism" is a good example of the problem with so many articles these days--post anything to get readership.
They'll be suggesting that we start burning books next...
Google Earth is just a tool. It is a tool used by millions, peacefullly, every day.
I am sure that the terrorists wore shoes, which helped their personal terrestrial mobility. Millions of others use shoes, peacefully, every day. Do we need more controls on shoes?
The lengths that some will go to, in order to find "someone else at fault" are truly astounding.
Get over it.
Somewhat related, I grew up about three blocks from where Barack Obama now lives. You used to be able to get Google Maps street-level views of the neighborhood. Not anymore. Most of the streets -- including some quite far away from Obama's house -- are no longer available.
I am not offering an opinion on this move -- just noting that Google does seem to do some blocking for security.
