How about just spending time with your family and loved ones without the stupid computer? Leave it home. Forget about. Often one stops to peruse a book or pay for a sandwich, meanwhile cunning thieves swiftly disappear with your laptop before they’re even noticed.

Dear Anonymous Mon, 2008-11-24 14:00...
I think you missed the point of this article and the site. It is specific to the business traveler NOT the average Joe or Josephina traveling with family for the holidays.
Other than that I agree with your sentiment. ;-)
I'm surprised that the column does not even mention full disk encryption. LoJack is fine if the thief logs on to the internet...but what stops them from gathering all my data prior to any internet usage? I use full disk encryption and there are many companies who sell it. With full disk all my ports are blocked and the operating system is moved so no thief can gain access to my laptop - it is basically a brick. You can Google "Full Disk Encryption" to find the many solutions out there today.
I like to recommend to my friends and colleagues.
