Was it intentional that this article can't be shared or social bookmarked on Facebook?
That's weird. I posted it on my Facebook profile just fine. I just clicked on the "Share Link" button in Facebook and copy and pasted the link in. But if that doesn't work for you feel free to let us know.

This may be slightly off topic, but reading this article got me thinking about a friend of mine who recently died. He was only 20-years-old, so like most people that age had a Facebook account. Since his death, there's been a lot of people posting comments on his wall. Nice, memorial type messages. I check his page now an then, and each time their is a new picture that he's been tagged in that a friend had and posted, or a new comment sharing a personally story or just saying "I miss you." I've never thought of facebook this way before, but besides the professional and personal side that we seem to be in a tug of war with, it has also been a nice way to memorialize a friend that is no longer with me.
Hmm? Social media issues on CIO? Dos and don'ts? Any CIO worth their salt would have one simple rule regarding Facebook: Not permitted.
Now, on to more important topics like why are CIOs necessary?
Well, I don't agree with the "not permitted" standpoint. Recently there I attended banking forum and it appeared that only two banks are permitting FB for their users. Bad idea. We are concluding many deals and solving issues, just by making it easy for our employees interact with the world in informal way (how else would I know, that my classmate from primary school that i haven't seen in ages is an SQL expert...?)
I think the memorial is an awesome way to remember someone. It would be depressing to delete the account, so that alternative is a good one.
I, too, would argue the opposite of "not permitted" In my recent experience working with executive level information and technology officers, is almost essential for them to have access to Facebook or an equivalent social networking tool. If for nothing else it aids in better knowing their people and their people's choice for technology. It goes without saying that with every increase in level of responsibility, professionalism should increase directly and Facebook is no exception. With the amount of time the technology people are spending on Facebook these days and the notion the time is money, CIOs should most certainly be well versed in the application if not individually involved.

I agree with Will Smith, I do not let facebook and/or similar social networking sites accessible from office. FB is more a community/chat tool than a professional approach to networking.
Personally, I have disabled my account on FB long time ago since i noticed that my profile is shaped by my contacts, not even by myself.
I guess immature kids need to be told such things. There were absolutely no great pearls of wisdom in this article. Just common sensical stuff. If you need to be told how to handle yourself on Facebook then you probably should not be using it.
