Outsourced IT and the true definition of Cloud Computing Tue, 2008-12-02 11:49

I like John Foley’s, author for Tech Web, definition of cloud computing. In his article “A Definition of Cloud Computing” http://www.informationweek.com/cloud-computing/blog/archives/2008/09/a_definition_of.html John describes cloud computing as “on-demand access to virtualized IT resources that are housed outside of your own data center, shared by others, simple to use, paid for via subscription, and accessed over the web.” This would include software-as-a-service. ITonCommand http://www.itoncommand.com provides businesses with a fully-outsourced IT solution that is best described by John’s definition of cloud computing. Businesses save money on IT infrastructure by outsourcing their entire network to ITonCommand. All of the business’ data, applications, email—everything—is safely stored on ITonCommand’s servers located in state-of-the-art data center facilities. The business pays a per user monthly “subscription fee” to access their entire network “on-demand” and “over the web.” Server resources are “shared by others” to maximize capacity and provide for easy and immediate scalability. Businesses save money on their IT by eliminating—or at least greatly reducing—on-site infrastructure, IT staffing, software licensing fees/upgrades (Microsoft Office Standard Edition licensing is included), ongoing IT management and system maintenance.
