Research in Motion's (RIM) BlackBerry Storm looks handsome enough, but it will disappoint prospective buyers hoping for a credible touch-based iPhone alternative.
So, please tell me how a cell phone/pda/communication tool rating is the concern of a CIO? If anyone places this kind of importance on a mobile communication device I would argue that they're way overpaid.
This is not to ignore the technology benefits. There are productivity improvements to be realized thru use of a RIM, iPhone, Palm and many other expensive electronic devices. The trade-off, however, is often ignored. We're all operating on 7 x 24 availability where the lines between professional and private have been blurred and even obliterated.
I declare that any CIO who spends money to equip the masses with cellular technology can't show any ROI for the effort. After all, IT does show up as an expense on the balance sheet doesn't it? ;-)
I'm gonna give it a shot. Keep in mind, they will improve the software and they are determined to outpace the iPhone.
If you remember, the iPhone took some time to develop their interface as well. Features, enhancements, and software will come with time.
I have to agree with this review. I went to the Verizon store today and played with the Storm for quite a while. I was very disappointed. I am attracted to the touch screen feature, but have an undying love for Verizon and RIM/Blackberry. So, my thought was that I could have my cake and eat it too. I was wrong. The Storm's touch screen capabilities are a disappointment. I recently purchased a Blackberry Curve through Verizon and am glad I didn't hold out for the Storm.
I haven't used an iPhone or other touch devices but I got the Storm Friday and I love the touch screen. By the end of the first day I was flying around on it no problems.
Verizon would do better contracting again with HTC to release the more enhanced versions of the Touch (HD, Pro, Diamond). It's a nice step by Blackberry, but too quirky for most business users.
I've had my Storm for 1 week now and don't know how I've lived without it. Most everything works like a charm.
Compared to the iPhone/Touch, it's equally good if not better. My one complaint is that there are nearly no games and the browser is not as good as Apple's.
I disagree with the review.

BB 9530 Storm: 2
Iphone: 9.5
After been using IPHONE for so many year, I thought it's time for me to switch the network and see what's the BB Storm can do. I was so Disappointed with it. This thing not even come close to chasing down Apple. It's like comparing driving on dirt road to a pavement road. The Storm needing more and big improvement w/o wifi? this is the big thing now in the US. I will give it credit for it's multi network capibility like CDMA and GSM. Folks don't fall for that"can you here me now crap?" the whole world is using GSM network, I will have to go with the world for now....
Please play with this phone before you purchase it. I had one for 28 days, and have now replaced it with a blackberry curve.
At first when I bought it.....I thought ugh I'll get use to it....wrong didn't happen. My finger was touching everything but what I wanted to touch...lol. Other thing was that it kept blacking out and going fuzzy. And lastly it's was big and bulky.
So make sure you think really long about purchasing this phone.
