I don't think this is just hype (but then I wouldn't); I think that perhaps the "credit crunch" (a laughably tabloidy and cuddly term for recession) will ultimately be a positive factor for SaaS advocates... it is a far more streamlined model than traditional software but maybe we need an economic jolt to realise it. We're all up to speed on the Internet now and things like TheWebService's Software as a Service are going to be here to stay.

I think the point is that not only will software be cheaper for the people that can aready afford it, but some advanced technology that was previously unavailable to many smaller companies will be affordable for the first time ever. And frankly, people are going to have to jump on board if they wish to remain competitive.
