I have to say that I'm very incredulous of the survey results and what they really mean, especially given where the survey was presented and the company presenting the information. While I believe that some people would do things like this, not nearly 9 out of 10. I know I wouldn't do that, and I'm fairly certain that 9 out of 10 people that I know probably wouldn't either. Take the results with a bucket of salt...

A fired CIO/CTO/CEO/COB can harm a company more than a fired lowly IT worker. Give me a break!

While recognizing the very real risk in this area, I am quite sceptical about the way the questions were formulated, as they almost automaticaly lead to the 'desired' answer.
A pity, as this issue deserves attention, but especially a sound scientific approach instead of scare-mongering.

Please! Sounds like a fear-mongering "shakedown" on the part of a company wanting to sell "protection." I find it hard to believe that IT workers are, as a class, more to be distrusted and feared than any other class of people. What I fear more, as a class of people, are security vendors who try to sell via FUD, and HR folks who blindly follow them in creating a work environment that increases distrust and suspicion instead of creating greater trust and respect.

To those who way "No Way !" I suggest looking at the poll that CIO.com put with this article. Right now out of 73 votes, the "yes" for some reason (either yes deserves punishment or yes for insurance) gathers 11 votes. If you add the "Depends" votes (they may or may not take files) you get 22 votes or 15 % of the total. Not bad, considering this is not a scientific poll....

IBM once upon a time, never did lay off employees. It recycled them for the better. Today, employees have become used office furniture. They get sold, discarded, thrown out of the window, or burned for heating.
In Football, if the team loses several seasons, the coach gets the ax. Why should it be different in the business world? Laid off employees are shown the door on Friday afternoon at four o’clock? Laying off employees is a defeat to management. Laying off employees is just another 9/11 disaster. Laying off employees is even another banking institution going down the sewer. I feel for the employees. The Government one day will wise up and eliminate layoff altogether.
