All of this makes perfect sense to me.
However, how does the BlackBerry 'Power Off' function fit into this mix? Is it like a sleep funtion where nothing really changes excpet you loose connectivity?

Hey David,
That's a great question and one I should've addressed in my article. Thanks for bringing it up.
When you "power down" a BlackBerry using the on/off key or holding the End Call button--depending on which device you use--you're not rebooting/resetting your operating system. Note that if you power down your BlackBerry using this method, it only takes 30 seconds or a minute for it to turn back on. That's because you're only disconnecting the power source and not resetting the handheld operating system. Since the device needs to reconnect to the wireless network, I believe turning the device on and off in this fashion refreshes the wireless connection, but that's about it.
To properly reset a BlackBerry you should use one of the processes mentioned in my story.
