Its becoming somewhat boring to constantly have to read about the Blackberry - a device which has been hyped up almost with the same fervor as the iPhone. I use an N95 for business purposes and it does exactly the same things (and better to some extent) as the Blackberry. I really don't see why a magazine such as CIO is constantly touting a device which lacks so many features... perhaps favoritism or whatever, but seeing Blackberry articles on this site is becoming a little old... perhaps its time for a change?
Dear CIO -
Ignore Dean - keep the BlackBerry articles and tips coming. I find them really helpful.

Agreed - learning new things about my device keeps it new and I am always amazed by what it can do. I don't find that any other devices (iPhone, Nokias etc.) could keep up with my Blackberry in terms of overall features. Thanks again for a great read.
The last tip about using the mute key for standby does not work on the 8803e Blackberry. Holding the mute key only changes your profile to vibrate and back again, even when holding the key for a few seconds.
I use the side ribbon, and have the lock option as the 2nd to last from the bottom, so a quick roll of the dial locks my phone.
Keep up the great tips on the blackberry. It is by far the most used PDA phone in North America, and thus why so much time is spent on it. When the N95 gets a fan base of roughly the same size, then it will be perfectly fine to spend as much time on it as the blackberry. And this is coming from a devout Palm user!..
On Dean's point, its about how common a device is. I see a lot of articles and publications and blogs and web sites and what nots about Windows. I guess they have a purpose because so many people need them. same on this.
So great articles, keep em coming.
On the mute key standby idea - is this standby mode something like shutting the phone down or will i still get calls?
Hi pinto,
BlackBerry standby mode simply locks your device's keyboard. Your smartphone will still be powered on when it's in standby mode, and you'll still receive calls, messages and message alerts. The feature is mainly meant to protect keys from being accidentally pressed while in a pocket or bag.

How do you change the applications that appear on the "Application Ribbon"?
