uhhhh....network drives?
There seem to be two kinds of people in the virtualization realm. There are those who embrace the technology and those who do not yet understand it as it applies today.
Mr. Messer touches on the best way to maximize the usefulness of virtualization. There are single item benefits but the greatest returns are experienced with all the pieces of the puzzle. Virtualizing storage, servers, desktops, applications, etc.
The reality is that this model of virtualizing will occur over time. Most companies may not be able to commit the upfront financial investment with their current budgets, mostly because it's not a priority. I have no doubt that as more and more companies see the TCO drop as a direct result of virtualization, particularly with DR and Green initiatives, that number will change dramatically.
It's also healthy to recognize that virtualization is not perfect. That was well said. Every new development comes with its own set of issues that need to be addressed.
Good interview. cheers.
