Text messaging isn't just kid's stuff anymore. Use these amazing online tools to turn any SMS-capable phone into a productivity powerhouse.
Since reading this article I have been experimenting with several of these tools.
I've been Outlook-less for about eight(8) months now, and living entirely off of my Blackberry's contacts & calendaring functions.
I also use my Blackberry to send quick text messages instead of logging into my account, especially when making quick notes to myself. But, texting while driving is not only difficult, its illegal. So I have started using Jott for a few weeks now. I know I have much more to learn about it, but my take so far is that, overall, I like the concept but it has some things to improve.
First, its message-taking is VERY short. Its not "one or two sentences" as you noted, but more like 10 or 15 words. I wish it really was longer, say, up to 10-15 seconds.
Second, users have no idea if or when you've reached that maximum data input. It lets you talk and talk, and then says (paraphrasing), "ok, what next?" So you don't know what it captured or didn't capture. It would be nice if it beeped at you or something to let you know you're maximum.
Third, you don't know how accurate its speech to text conversion is. Admittedly, I'm impressed so far with its translations! BUT, it would improve the process immensely if the system would either automatically, or offer at the end of each message, for it to read back to you what the system ACTUALLY captured using the system in reverse in a text-to-speech mode. That way, you could cancel the whole thing and try again rather then send it off and hope for the best.
Fourth, and again, this might be a trick I need to dig into, but it appears that you have to add each new recipient manually, in groups of 1-5 persons. It would be nice if I could import a set of contacts in from, say, Hotmail, GMail, my Blackberry Contacts list or whatever.
Those are my getting started comments.
What experience are others having with this Jott tool?
