I tried the “Change the signal strength display from bars to numbers” and what happened on my T-Mo 8320 is that the bars went blank. I never got any numbers there, neither on EDGE nor UMA. I was really hoping this would work with UMA, but it doesn’t work at all it seems.
Hi Nikolaus,
I have a T-Mobile Curve 8320, and I am able to change the signal bars to numbers without any issue. However, the numbers appear only in black, so if you've got a dark background or wallpaper, you won't be able to see them. Try changing your wallpaper to a light color. Also, your problem could have to do with the theme you're using. The shortcut works fine for me using the BB Dimension Zen theme with a light-colored background.
I hope that helps.
AS
That is very bad that the numbers show up dark. Yes I do have a dark background (space scene) but if I can see the EDGE bars (white) and UMA bars (pink) then why can't the numbers also be in white or Pink depending if I'm on EDGE or UMA? I have a friend at RIM who will be hearing from me on this :)
These features have been built into the blackberry at least since the 800 series.
How about a few more? 't' to go to the top of a list of items, 'b' to go to the bottom of a list.
Clean up your screen by using ALT Click on an icon to bring up display options (move, hide)
All of these have been there from day one.
What I really want/need are some better snooze options for appointment alarms. Currently, the only thing that seems to be available is: 1) open the item and change the alarm setting 2) dismiss the alarm 3) snooze the alarm for 15 minutes. What I really want to do is snooze for 30 min, or 1 hour, or 1 day. Even better would be to snooze until 5 min before an appointment (or some other set time). Outlook has had this for years. 3rd party providers on Palm have also done this for years (DateBk). If BB would do it (or a 3rd party) I would finally be happy with my BB and stop looking at the Palm Centro.
Any clues?
The only problem I have is the signal strength numbers are 50% covered up with the speaker/ringer icon using the BB Dimension Today Plus Theme.
In case no one is aware, the reboot option via the alt+RtShift+del keys, doesn't work on the SureType (non-QWERTY) style keyboards, i.e. 7100 & Pearl series devices. It's a handy feature that I never really missed, until it was gone. :(
Hey Ligntningrod311, no worries, there's an app for reboots (soft resets)

i second the pink bars
"Anonymous Wed, 2008-04-09 10:23" - points for the use of 'day one.' You are awesome. Now that you've gotten the props you wanted (even if Anonymous), the Menu key on newer models does the same thing while an icon is highlighted, which saves you from having to play finger-Twister. Regardless, of how long people have been using a Blackberry, thanks everyone for the tips.
I'm with Todd on only 50% of the numbers showing, but something is better than nothing when it comes to the insight gained from having a number and when considering geek chic!
ALT+ESC is a great memory saver. Thanks.
