KinkedIn customer "service" mostly consists of implementing Gestapo policies ON customers at random, and based on a particular service rep's whims than any consistency.
It is funny to see people built new "platforms" when their existing customers are fed up, and FaceBook etc. are adding such functionality.
I guess people still follow the lousy old AOL model of signing up people while not being able to serve who they already had. We all know how did AOL did.

I've had no performance issues with LinkedIn and I wonder if there are as many users that experience what Mr. Howell does.
From that perspective I don't think your piece did justice with LinkedIn and I would hope LinkedIn follow up with some satisfaction survey soon to prove your point wrong.
Keep in mind that the majority of users use the system as intended - to maintain connections to people they actually know and trust. LinkedIn home page states the following :"Find past and present colleagues and classmates quickly. LinkedIn makes staying in touch simple."
There's a sizeable number of "open networkers" out there who connect with anyone who ever sent them an invite. Some of them might be hitting the performance issues/limitations. Tough!
I and many users like me use it to actually keep in touch with who they worked or studied with in some capacity.
Oh and btw, I appreciate the fact that LinkedIn bans people who consistently try connect with people they don't know.
The linkedIn team should come up with the quick solutions for their shortcomings,we cann't afford to switch to other as this gives solid platform to meet highly qualified, high innovators, higher post holder sharing their views having them in network is really inspiring and just pouring lot of knowledge in our knowledge data base.
It is amazing to me that Linked In doesn't have a major competitor at this time. I like their system, but now that the Facebook API is out there I will be curious to see who comes out of the woodwork.
PS: I will check out fastpitch.
